Are Memory B Cells the Same as Long-Lived Plasma Cells?
Immune memory includes different cellular roles. Memory B cells can respond again and generate antibody-secreting cells, while some long-lived plasma cells continue antibody secretion in supportive niches, including bone marrow.

What the illustration shows
Navy and gold two-panel poster comparing B-lineage cells. Left, a blue memory B cell bears surface antigen receptors; an arrow leads toward a smaller antibody-secreting cell for a later response. Right, a larger plasma-cell cutaway with an eccentric nucleus and abundant blue secretory membranes releases gold Y-shaped antibodies in a supportive tissue niche. A bone cutaway locates marrow as one common niche. A lower strip repeats the conceptual memory-to-secreting-cell relationship. Text distinguishes recall capacity from sustained secretion and says some plasma cells persist. Cell size, organelles, receptor and antibody counts, tissue arrangement and glow are illustrative, not measured morphology or lifespan. Gold AllHumanBody.com and full slogan appear on plain navy.
How to interpret this poster
- Memory B cells are not continuously secreting plasma cells, and not every plasma cell is long-lived. Bone marrow is one important niche, not the only location.
- Niche shapes, receptors, cell counts and antibody symbols are conceptual; no fixed lifespan, marker combination or guaranteed protection is implied.
- Human bone-marrow evidence identifies a particular plasma-cell subset; it is not a universal census of immune memory or a vaccination recommendation.
- AI-assisted educational illustration; not physician certification, microscopy, a diagnosis or individualized medical advice.
- Fine annotations need enlargement; the full description provides an accessible text alternative.
- Display the full uncropped illustration; do not trim titles, legends or boundary annotations.
